As part of our mission, the Detroit Mercy Law Library provides our students "with guidance and assistance in both locating information and planning research strategies." This library research guide was created to assist our students entering into the Federal Judicial Internship program, and aims to provide students with a background on some of the most utilized sources within the Federal Court System.

Local Rules for EDMI
Researchers can quickly locate text of local civil and criminal rules, administrative orders, and recent or proposed amendments to the rules.
US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit
Keep up to date with law governing your jurisdiction. The Court's homepage includes links to recent opinions, rule amendments, and other information about the Court.
Internal Operating Procedures (IOPs) for the Sixth Circuit
Also includes a copy of the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure, the Sixth Circuit Rules, and the Sixth Circuit Guide to Electronic Filing.
Introduction to "The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation"
Most federal courts utilize the Bluebook system. This research guide compiled by Detroit Mercy Law Librarian, Jennifer Hostetler, will help walk you through the basics of legal citation using the Bluebook. Be sure to check with your judge or magistrate to confirm the system of citation you will be using.
BNA Premier Collections
Students at the Detroit Mercy Law Library may find a wealth of information available to them through Bloomberg Law. There are many excellent collections covering criminal, employment, pharmaceuticals/medical devices, and tax. Of particular interest is the United States Law Week to help keep you up to date on recent federal case decisions and trends.
This database is the leader in federal legislative resources, and allows students to locate legislative hearings, House and Senate Reports, committee prints, and the coveted CRS reports.
