General Rules for Nonperiodic Edition, Publisher & Date

The edition, publisher, and date of the work are indicated parenthetically at the end of the citation. Some general rules are given below:

Generally - Cite to the latest edition of a work unless an earlier edition is more relevant or authoratative.

Single Edition - Indicate the year of publication within the parenthetical.

Multiple Editions Indicate the year of publication and the edition within the parenthetical.

Edition, Publisher & Date Abbreviations

Abbreviate editions according to the publisher's terminology, referring to Table 14, for a list of common publishing abbreviations.

Tips

The publication date refers to the year an edition was published. This is not the same as the date of printing.
